BeyondDisplay is local by design.
No account is required. Screen content is sent directly between your devices on the local network and is not uploaded to or stored by Noviora. We do not sell personal information, serve advertising, or track you across apps and websites.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Noviora ("Noviora," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the BeyondDisplay apps for macOS and iPadOS, the BeyondDisplay product pages on noviora.net, software downloads, and update services (collectively, the "Service"). It does not apply to unrelated Noviora pages, products, or third-party services that may have their own policies.
BeyondDisplay lets compatible Apple devices discover one another and stream a display over a nearby network. The macOS app can send or receive a display. The iPadOS app receives and renders a display stream.
2. Information processed on your devices and local network
Most BeyondDisplay processing takes place on your devices. To provide discovery and streaming, the following information may be processed or shared directly with nearby devices running BeyondDisplay:
- Discovery information: device name, a randomly generated device or session identifier, device or operating-system type, display resolution, and local network addressing and service information.
- Screen content: video frames representing the selected or virtual display, including anything visible on that display while a session is active.
- Session messages: connection, start, stop, display configuration, and connection-health messages required to establish and maintain a session.
- Local settings and diagnostics: app preferences, the iPadOS device identifier used for discovery, and technical logs produced by Apple operating-system logging facilities.
This information is used only to discover nearby devices, establish the connection, stream and render the display, maintain the session, and diagnose errors. Noviora does not receive or store your local discovery information, screen content, or session messages. Screen frames are processed in memory for real-time encoding, decoding, and display; BeyondDisplay does not intentionally save recordings or screenshots.
The random identifier used by the iPadOS app is stored in the app's local preferences until you delete the app or its data. The macOS app currently generates a random discovery identifier for each app session. A device name can sometimes contain a person's name; you can change the device name in Apple system settings before using local discovery.
3. Information sent to Noviora or our service providers
Aggregate Extend Screen count
When an Extend Screen session starts in the macOS app, the app sends an event name and the BeyondDisplay app version to a Noviora endpoint over HTTPS. The endpoint increments a single aggregate counter. BeyondDisplay does not include a device identifier, device name, account, screen content, or session content in this event. Our hosting infrastructure necessarily processes routine request information, such as an IP address, request time, and technical headers, to deliver and protect the endpoint. We do not use the event for advertising or to build a user profile.
Software update checks
The macOS app uses the open-source Sparkle framework to check Noviora's update feed and download updates. Update requests may expose routine connection information, such as IP address, app version, operating-system details contained in request headers, and request time, to Noviora and our hosting provider. Sparkle's software is maintained by the Sparkle Project; BeyondDisplay's update feed and files are hosted for Noviora.
Website visits and downloads
If you visit the BeyondDisplay website or download the macOS app, our hosting and content-delivery providers may process standard server-log information, such as IP address, browser or user-agent information, requested page or file, referring page, and request time, for delivery, reliability, abuse prevention, and security. When you select a BeyondDisplay download, the website increments an aggregate download counter. BeyondDisplay product pages do not use advertising pixels or cross-site tracking technologies.
Communications
If you email us, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message, and any diagnostic details or attachments. Please do not send screen content or other sensitive information unless it is necessary for support.
4. Why we use information
We process the limited information described above to:
- provide local discovery, screen streaming, rendering, and session reliability;
- deliver downloads and software updates;
- measure aggregate product use and download activity;
- maintain security, prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures, and improve BeyondDisplay; and
- respond to support requests and comply with legal obligations.
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of the service you request, our legitimate interests in operating and securing BeyondDisplay and understanding aggregate use, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where the law requires it. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests as described in the "Your choices and rights" section.
5. Device permissions
- Local Network: macOS and iPadOS may ask for permission to discover and communicate with nearby BeyondDisplay devices using Bonjour and TCP. BeyondDisplay cannot provide local discovery or streaming if this permission is denied.
- Screen & System Audio Recording on macOS: macOS uses this permission category before an app can capture a display. BeyondDisplay uses it when a Mac sends an Extend or Mirror display. The current version captures screen video frames only and does not intentionally capture or transmit system audio.
You can review or revoke permissions in Apple system settings. Revoking a required permission prevents the related BeyondDisplay feature from working but does not affect unrelated device functions.
7. Data retention
- Screen content: processed in memory during a session and not retained by Noviora.
- Local identifiers and settings: retained on your device until reset, app-data deletion, or app removal, depending on the platform and setting.
- Aggregate counters: may be retained as cumulative totals because they are not designed to identify an individual or device.
- Operational logs: retained only as long as reasonably necessary for security, reliability, abuse prevention, and legal compliance, after which they are deleted or de-identified.
- Support communications: retained for as long as needed to respond, maintain support history, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations.
Retention periods can vary based on the nature of the record, security needs, and applicable law.
8. Your choices and privacy rights
You can control BeyondDisplay information in several ways:
- stop an active session at any time;
- deny or revoke Local Network and Screen Recording permissions;
- use BeyondDisplay without an internet connection, which prevents update checks and the aggregate Extend Screen event while preserving supported local-network features;
- change your Apple device name before advertising it to nearby devices; and
- remove local app settings and the stored iPadOS discovery identifier by deleting the app and its data.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection regarding personal information we control, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. To make a request, email us using the address below. We may need to verify your request, and some rights are subject to legal exceptions. Because most BeyondDisplay data remains only on your devices or exists as non-identifying aggregate counts, we may not have data that can be linked back to you.
We do not knowingly use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require a right to limit under applicable U.S. state privacy laws, and we do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising.
9. Security and local-network notice
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the limited information we process. Internet requests for update checks and aggregate counts use HTTPS. No system can be guaranteed completely secure.
BeyondDisplay's screen stream is intended for trusted local networks. The current local streaming protocol does not provide application-layer end-to-end encryption. Someone with access to an untrusted or shared network and sufficient technical capability could potentially observe or interfere with local traffic. Use BeyondDisplay only on networks and with devices you trust, secure your Wi-Fi, and end the session when it is no longer needed.
10. International processing
Noviora and its service providers may process website, update, support, and operational information in countries other than where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we use legally recognized safeguards for international transfers.
11. Children's privacy
BeyondDisplay is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
12. Third-party links and software
The Service may link to external websites, and the macOS app incorporates the Sparkle update framework. Third-party websites and independently provided software are governed by their own terms and privacy practices. This Policy does not control information a third party collects independently from Noviora.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as BeyondDisplay changes or as legal requirements evolve. We will post the revised Policy on this page and update the effective or last-updated date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice where required by law.
14. Contact us
