BeyondDisplay · iMac screen guide

Use another Mac when an iMac screen is unavailable.

If the iMac still runs macOS and can launch BeyondDisplay, Mirror mode can let another Mac view and operate it over a local connection.

When software can help

A broken or unavailable screen does not always mean the iMac itself is unusable. If macOS is still running and the iMac can connect locally, BeyondDisplay can provide a software path to operate it from another Mac.

This page is for a narrow case: the iMac still works, but the display is the problem. If the iMac cannot boot, cannot join the network, or cannot run apps, you will need another repair or recovery path.

How to try it

Step 1Confirm the iMac still startsThe iMac must be able to boot, join the local network, and run BeyondDisplay.
Step 2Use another MacInstall BeyondDisplay on the Mac with a working screen and on the iMac if possible.
Step 3Start Mirror modeMirror the iMac from the other Mac so you can view and operate it locally.

Broken iMac screen FAQ

Can BeyondDisplay help when an iMac screen is broken?

Yes, if the iMac can still start, join your local network, and run BeyondDisplay. Another Mac can mirror and operate it.

Is this an external monitor adapter?

No. BeyondDisplay is software. It does not repair the screen or turn another device into a hardware input for a dead iMac.

Can I recover files this way?

It may help you operate the iMac if macOS is running normally. It is not a data recovery tool.

Does the other Mac need the same Apple ID?

No. BeyondDisplay does not require both Macs to use the same Apple ID or a product login.
